The 2017/18 season is set to be an exciting and challenging one for our senior and colt sides, with games beginning the first weekend in September.
Finishing last season as Lancashire North Champions, our 1st XV have been promoted to the North Lancashire and Cumbria league. Despite the challenge of competing at a higher level of rugby, Head Coach Steve Gough and his young squad of home grown players will be looking to carry on their winning ways.
‘The club’s decision to invest in a professional head coach in 2014/15 and appoint Steve Gough has been richly rewarded. Our young players have responded well to his coaching and leadership. Indeed his and the club’s achievements at every level were recognised by the Lancashire Rugby Union, who awarded Tarleton ‘Junior Rugby Club of the Year’ in 2016/17.
I am sure all our open age teams will be looking to build on the success of the last two seasons. We are delighted to confirm that Steve has agreed a new contract that will keep him at the helm of Tarleton Rugby coaching for another three seasons’
After gaining promotion through a RFU league restructure, our 2nd XV will start the season in the County Courier Services Div 2. This will be a tough assignment with fixtures against the likes of Clitheroe 1st XV and 2nd XV’s representing Southport, Bolton and Littleborough. It will be a great test for our 2nd XV but one they will relish.
For the first time in the club’s history, 2017/18 will herald TRUFC fielding a 3rd XV. With last season’s senior colts moving up to senior rugby as well as new and returning players wanting to pull on the shirt this season, the club has entered a third XV in the Sale Sharks Div 5 West.
After a Successful League winning 16/17 season our Senior Colts will be looking to carry their form into the new season as Senior(U18) Colts. The lads will begin the season in the Halbro NW Colts Senior Preliminary E League. Success in the Prelim E League will see them promoted into a higher league for the Conference Leagues later in the season.
