We send you this update, excited to share positive news.
We are delighted to announce three significant appointments.
Our objective is to unify the whole Club, and each of these appointments has been made with this objective in full view.
Nick King is appointed Assistant Head Coach. Nick will work alongside Steve Gough and other senior coaches. Together they will ensure that we create the best possible environment for our senior squad to play with a dynamic game plan, be a cohesive unit and by doing so create a winning culture.
In order to continue our drive to unite all playing levels within the Club, Nick will additionally be responsible for the coaching development of all the Minis and Juniors’ coaches and managers. This aspect of Nick’s remit is pivotal to the continuity of the playing, and in turn style at all ages within the Club. We want the Senior squad to be packed full of home grown talent for many years to come hence our reinvigorated approach to this vital aspect of player development.
Nick has enjoyed an impressive playing career, playing senior rugby at Clubs including Coventry & Fylde. Nick also captained Caldy and has been capped by Warwickshire, Notts Lincs & Derby and Lancashire.
Barry Cook takes over the role of Club Secretary. Many of you know Barry very well already and appreciate the huge commitment he makes to the Club each and every year. A big thanks to Lee Waddell who has helped us in this role prior to Barry. Barry’s keen eye on administration will continue to be welcomed within the management team. Thanks for staying amongst us Barry!
Dave Palmer Davies takes over as Chairman of the Minis & Juniors. Dave is currently the Manager of the Under 10’s and together with Craig Mahon has been a huge driving force behind making the Under 10’s a very successful and happy squad. Dave’s son, Freddie, also plays for the under 10’s and by all accounts is a very promising player who loves his rugby.
In the rugby section we welcome back more of our friends. Returning players include Louis Houghton, Harry Atkinson, Ellis McGovern and Jamie Bantleman. Jamie looking to assist with strength and conditioning.
Also returning is Tim Molloy to support the coaching function across the Club. Great to have you back fellas.
The management team also continues to work on broader Club matters, and is pleased to report that the future of the Club looks very good, following decisive actions taken at the time Covid-19 first took hold. We’re not out of the woods just yet, but with some clarity and green shoots of some normality beginning to appear, we are exploring how we will adapt to ‘back to playing protocols’ and Club use, as permissions and directives develop.
We are in the midst of implementing a robust accounting platform, that will allow us to better understand and steer the commercial direction of the Club. Particularly important, as we emerge from lockdown and hopefully back to playing the game we love and enjoying everyone’s company.
In this process Nick Wetherall and the finance team is welcoming Louise Mallinson in to its ranks to support the implementation and operation of our finances.
If you have driven past Carr Lane you will no doubt have seen that our pitches are looking grassy, green and lush. Huge thanks to Dave Cropper, Sean Mallinson and Andy Williamson. These three have been seeding, watering and mowing already. From a playing and training perspective having a cracking surface to play on at every level is great to have – many thanks.
Sean and Dave have also repaired and restored our scrum machine – it won’t be sitting at the side of the pitches too much longer, as our forwards coaches and players get to grips with this cracking piece of equipment. Best of luck fellas!
Finally on behalf of the management team, thanks to you all for the continued support.
As soon as we know what normality looks like for Rugby Clubs we will be in touch, if not before.
Do stay safe and we hope each and every one of you is doing well.
All the best.
